Black sand and gold often occur together, and separating them is one of prospecting's eternal challenges. The Top Hat magnet handles the magnetic portion instantly—drag it through your pan and watch the magnetite jump up and cling to the magnet.

The "top hat" design is key: the magnet is encased in a plastic housing that you can remove the magnet from. When you want to release the black sand, simply pull the magnet out of the housing and the material falls away clean. No scraping, no mess.
